South of Georgina and in the centre of York Region is East Gwillimbury. This town of 25,000 consists of a number of communities, including Holland Landing (with about 40% of the population), Sharon, Queensville and Mount Albert. Historical buildings and sites, combined with farms, forest, countryside and recreational areas, add to the overall pastoral character of the town. This town is convenient to Highway 404 and is served by both York Region Transit and GO Transit bus and train service (at the Green Lane Terminal in the north of Newmarket) to connect to other parts of York Region and the Greater Toronto Area. Schools East Gwillimbury has 7 elementary schools, and high school students attend schools in nearby Newmarket. Shopping While there is some shopping in the larger communities, but close by are a number of larger malls in Newmarket. Recreation East Gwillimbury has a number of tourist attractions including the Sharon Temple national historic site, Rogers Reservoir and numerous historic buildings. There are a number of marinas nestled along the tranquil Holland River with ready access to Lake Simcoe. Golfers have a choice of 3 public sources in East Gwillimbury and more than 35 courses within a 15-minute drive. There are also 7 tennis courts, 2 ice arenas, 7 community centres, and 10 baseball diamonds.
